Lord of the Rings Online Overview
Lord of the Rings Online was originally a subscription-based MMORPG, but now allows players to get a taste of the iconic world of Middle Earth for free. That world has been massively expanded over the years with continuous updates. The winding depths of Moria, the wide plains of Rohan, the thickets of Mirkwood, and much else has been added through periodic expansions. While LOTRO only offers the option to create characters of the free races, a PvP mode called Monster Play allows players take command of powerful monsters in large-scale arena battles. For those more interested in making music than making war, Lord of the Rings Online includes a built in music creator and gives all classes the ability to play at least one instrument.

Lord of the Rings Online Review
By Toan Layne
LOTRO is a 3D fantasy MMORPG developed by Turbine and published by Turbine and Midway Games. It was released on April 24, 2007, and it is currently available through the official website and Steam. The game originally featured a subscription-based model, but has since adopted a F2P model with a cash shop and a VIP subscription option on September 10, 2010. It’s currently one of the most popular F2P MMORPGs. Let’s find out why.
Welcome to Middle Earth!
Lord of the Rings Online is set in Middle Earth, during the fantastic journey of the Fellowship as they try to take the One Ring to Mt. Doom. Players will be able to explore such legendary locations as Gondor, the Mines of Moria, the Shire, and Rohan. You can also meet famous characters from the books and movies such as Gandalf, Gimli, Frodo, and many others. Fans of Tolkien’s universe will find themselves immediately drawn to the game’s world.
The character creation screen in LOTRO is nothing special. You can choose between five races (Man, Hobbit, Dwarf, Elf, and Beorning) and ten classes (Beorning, Burglar, Captain, Champion, Guardian, Hunter, Lore-master, Minstrel, Rune-keeper, and Warden). The customization itself is fairly basic, though there are decent options for facial features. Players can also choose a character’s nationality, which will give them a title later on.
Once that’s done, players will go through an instanced tutorial where they’ll get their first chance to meet several iconic Lord of the Rings characters. As a dwarf, I met with Gandalf and Gimli, and faced a troll in a cave. Talk about setting the tone, right? However, things settled down after that, and I found myself faced with the familiar Everquest/WoW type of MMORPG. The controls are the classic WASD to move, mouse to look around and interact, tab to target and the number keys to cast abilities. Quests are tracked on the minimap, abilities are learned automatically upon leveling, and combat is fairly static.
Leveling and Traits
Hi BalajiI'm not entirely sure why the autorun file on one of the pendrives was readable, it might have been the fact that it's a very small file. Follow the link to change the drive letter:run and then check.Balaji Kundalam. This was CMgPCS. The Malwarebytes was previously run and I'm fairly sure that it wasn't a malware issue.I've done a bit more digging and found that there was a lowerfilter on the CDROM and USB Devclass global unique identifiers. Pen drive access denied windows 8.
Characters automatically learn both passive and active skills as they level up. To further character customization, you have class traits, virtue traits, and racial traits. Class trait points are earned by leveling up, and are spent in a talent tree, improving a character’s offensive and defensive capabilities. Virtue traits are gained by completing deeds and are used to enhance a character’s combat abilities. Racial traits are specific to the character’s race and they are usually earned by killing a certain number of mobs. These traits provide special skills or fast travel abilities. Both Virtue and Racial traits have their own talent tree. This system is actually quite in-depth and gives players a great sense of progression as they level up.
Deeds, Titles, Housing and Reputation
LOTRO is all about PvE, lore, and questing. To keep things interesting, LOTRO has a Deed and Title system. Deeds are similar to achievements in other games and can be divided into four categories: exploration, slayer, lore, and reputation. Different types of deeds are completed in different ways. Sometimes a deed involves killing a large number of mobs, and sometimes it involves exploring and completing an instance. Deeds also reward Turbine Points, which can be used in the Cash Shop. It's great that LOTRO gives players free cash shop currency just for playing the game. You then have Titles, which are earned by completing deeds, or mastering professions. Titles are purely cosmetic, appearing next to a character’s name. For example, if a player reaches Level 5 without dying, he or she will earn the title, “The Wary”.
There is also a housing system in the game, which becomes unlocked at Level 15. Players will own a house in an instanced neighborhood that corresponds to their race. There are 3 types of houses available, with 2 of them being personal houses, and the largest one being available only to kinships (guilds). Too bad player housing is in its own unique instanced area. It'd be cool to see player housing in the persistent world, but as far as I know, Ultima Online is the only game to ever have attempted that. Finally, you have the reputation system, which is similar to the one found in WoW. Players can earn reputation with a faction through daily quests, killing mobs, or running instances, which then unlocks certain rewards, such as items, recipes, and various other services.
PvE
When it comes to PvE, you have quest instances, world instances, raids, public dungeons, and skirmishes. Quest instances are designed for one player or a small group, and they are used for storytelling purposes. The beginning tutorial is an example of a quest instance. World instances are designed for a small or full fellowship (party), and they have quests, deeds, and boss encounters within them. Raids are designed for two or three full fellowships (12-18 players) and they involve defeating large, powerful bosses for high quality items. Public dungeons are similar to world instances, but the main difference is that anyone can enter without the need for an invitation from the main group. Skirmishes are instances that can be accessed from anywhere in the world. Players join Skirmishes alongside their Soldier (a special Skirmish NPC). A Skirmish can take anywhere from 30 to 90 minutes and they can be adjusted for either solo, duo, small, or full fellowship, and raid size groups.
PvP
Lord of the Rings Online has a unique PvP system. Given that players cannot choose any of the warring factions, such as Orcs or Uruks, LOTRO feautres a system called PvMP (Player vs. Monster Player) or Monster Play. Monster Play is unlocked at Level 20 and players take on the role of either the Monsters or the Free Peoples, with the Free Peoples only being available to VIP players. The combat takes place in the Ettenmoors, where the heroes and monsters fight for control over 5 keeps. There are also 4 outposts in the Ettenmoors, and once one side controls 2 of them, they can enter the Delving of Frór, the public dungeon area beneath the zone. By participating in the fray, players gain ranks and commendations. There are 15 ranks in total, which progressively unlock better equipment for heroes, and better stats and armor for monsters. Commendations can be used to buy stat improvements, skills, and cosmetic upgrades.
Cash Shop
LOTRO features both a cash shop and a subscription option (VIP). By becoming a VIP, players gain access to all character trait slots, 500 Turbine Points/month, unlimited chat, extra inventory slots, custom character portrait frame, access to all quest packs and skirmishes, daily 100% XP boost, access to all monster classes, no currency cap, and maximum auction house listings, among other things, for $14.99/month. All of the benefits have a cumulative value of over $300. In the cash shop, players can find quest packs, instances, raids, skirmishes, storage slots, auction house slots, character slots, classes, currency cap removals, cosmetics, traveling, housing, buffs and boosts to both stats and in-game currency, crafting items, potions, travel options, dyes, mounts, and much more. Players purchase from the shop using Turbine Points, which as mentioned above, can be farmed by completing deeds.
Final Verdict: Great
While F2P players can certainly play through and get a lot out of the game, the Cash Shop does put a lock on a lot of content, which means that players will most likely have to pay if they want to avoid a lot of farming for Turbine Points. Aside from that, Lord of the Rings Online is a cozy adventure, worthy of the works of Tolkien. It’s definitely a must-play for fans of Middle Earth, but if the subject matter does little for you, you’re still left with a good game.

Development History / Background:
The path to a Lord of the Rings MMORPG was a long one - perhaps an even longer journey than the one the Fellowship of the Ring embarked on. A MMORPG based on the Lord of the Rings license was first announced in 1998 by Sierra, but financial troubles soon halted development. In 2001, Vivendi Universal Games secured an eight-year right to produce video games based on the LOTR franchise. Vivendi and Turbine then announced Middle-Earth Online in 2003 with a scheduled release date of 2004. By 2005, Turbine decided to go it alone and bought the right to develop and publish what became The Lord of the Rings Online. The happy ending to this epic journey was an eventual release on April 24, 2007.

The Lord of the Rings Online: Siege of Mirkwood is the second retail expansion pack for the MMORPGThe Lord of the Rings Online and was released on December 1, 2009 in North America and December 3, 2009 in Europe. Unlike the first expansion this edition was only available via a web based download.
The expansion added the southern region of Mirkwood. The game's level cap has been increased to level 65, and the expansion included the conclusion to Volume II of the epic storyline. It also introduced a new 'skirmish' system that allows for repeatable, randomised and scalable combat based instances that can be accessed from anywhere in the game world for 1, 3, 6 and 12 players and new 3, 6 and 12 player private instances that take place in Dol Guldur proper.

Skirmish[edit]
Skirmishes are repeatable, randomized and scalable combat based instances that can be accessed from anywhere in the game world for 1, 3, 6 and 12 players. Alongside the player fights a customizable soldier, a pet NPC which can be customized to resemble many in-game player classes. Several Skirmish Camps have been added worldwide that allow a player to buy weapons, equipment and upgrades for their soldier earned through points awarded during Skirmishes.
Storyline[edit]
Upon release Siege of Mirkwood concluded the Mines of Moria story, the second of the Epic books overall. The third Epic story line, Allies of the King, launched shortly afterwards and focused on the Grey Company, being completely unrelated to Mirkwood. The story continues in the Rise of Isengard expansion.
Volume III: Allies of the King[edit]
Book 1 - Oath of the Rangers
Elrond received a mysterious message from Galadriel, telling him to gather the Rangers of the North and send them to Rohan to help Aragorn. The player is summoned to the Last Homely House and given a list of Rangers to recruit: Radanir of the Trollshaws, Candaith of Weathertop, Saeradan of Bree-Land, Halros of the Shire, Halbarad from Esteldin, Calenglad from Evendim, Lothrandir from Forochel and finally Corunir and Golodir from Angmar. With the exception of Radanir, all Rangers are the ones player have interacted with during Epic Volume I. Joined by others of their kin, they form the Grey Company and meet Elrohir, Elladan and Lady Arwen, who passes Halbarad the banner she has made for Aragorn.
Book 2 - Ride of the Grey Company
Setting forth from Rivendell, the Grey Company begins the journey south. While passing the Ring-Forges of Eregion, Halbarad asks a Dwarf-Jeweler to craft fake copies of the Ring of Barahir, in order to confuse their enemies and to buy Aragorn time, should a member Grey Company be captured. Arriving in the lands of Enedwaith, the Rangers are trying to make peace with the local tribes and find an ally in Wadu, who is soon found dead. They eventually discover an old and confused DwarfNár, father of Ollfardh and old companion of Thrór. To everyone's amazement, he knows about the secret road the Company is planning to take.
Book 3 - Echoes of the Dead
Nona, Wadu's sister, offers to join Grey Company to wage war against Saruman, which Halbarad absolutely refuses. While investigating who can be trusted and who can't, the Rangers receive word that of a band of Oathbreakers from Erech in Enedwaith. An attempt to remind them of their Oath to Isildur fails horribly when Candaith is killed. An angry Halbarad is finished with this land and leads the company on to Dunland. But as the player leaves Nár, the Dwarf finally reveals that Saruman the White had a hand in these events all along.

Leveling in in Lotro can be slow if you don’t know where to go next. In this guide I will show you some good tips for quick leveling and where to go at each level when leveling in Lotro. During my time in Lotro I have leveled several characters to max level, and streamlining where to go at all times definitely helps on the leveling speed. Following this guide will hopefully help you going from level 1 all the way through the Riders of Rohan Expansion to level 85!
Leveling tips:
Quest Guide: Enable the Quest Guide by going into Options – Ui Settings and turning it on. This will help you plan “paths” more efficiently when leveling. Use the map and complete all quests in an area before moving on.
Looting: If you have a lot of gold, don’t bother with looting at all for a good while. If you don’t have gold or gear, turn on always loot all by going into the options – UI settings – Allways loot all at the bottom.
Staying Ahead: Try to stay a couple of levels ahead of the content you are doing. This is not very important but it makes leveling easier since mobs go down faster.
Questing: Questing is generally faster than grinding. And it will reward you with the gear and gold you need to get ahead. Keep your quest journal updated by always deleting quests you have outleveled and group quests you won’t be doing.
Food : Minimize downtime by always having enough food. Buy food on the AH. These will also give you stat boosts.
Enhanced Experience: VIP members gain enhanced XP. You can also buy accelerated XP with you destiny points. You can also get Tomes of Experience that will boost your XP by 25% from mob kills.
Lord Of The Rings Online
Mounts: Always have the fastest possible mount for fast traveling speed when leveling.
Leveling Guide:
Level 1 – 5 Tutorial:
For the first 5 levels you will be going through the tutorial. The tutorial is very story driven and goes by fast. You will get all your starting gear here.
Level 6 – 13 Archet/Bree-land/Ered Luin/Shire
After the tutorial you will be spending your time in your racial starting zone. Leveling here is a breeze and you will finish here quickly.
If you are a VIP member, be sure to head to the Hengstacer’s Farm north of Bree-Town and get your first mount
Level 14 – 20 Bree-land:
At around level 13, give or take a few levels, you should move on to Bree-Land. Try to work on the Epic Storyline as much as you can, although this is not required. At around level 20 you should consider moving on.
Level 21 – 30 Lone Lands / North Downs:
At around level 20, two options will open up for you, the North Downs and the Lone Lands. You should hit up both these zones. Head to Lone Lands and stay there until around level 25, then move on to Trestlebridge in North Downs. Or you can move back and forth between the two zones. The North Downs should take you to around level 30, maybe even a few levels over.
Level 31 – 40 Evendim (Trollshaws):
Evendim is a very enjoyable zone to level in. There are plenty of quests and you will reach level 40 here in no time. If you get low on quests you can head over to the Trollshaws as well.
Level 41 – 50 Angmar / Misty Mountains / Goblin Town / Forochel
At this point, quite a few options open up for you. Leveling will slow down a bit from here, but as there are plenty of places to level you should do fine. Try to gear up sometime around now to speed up leveling a bit.
Level 51 – 59 Moria :
It’s now time to head underground to Moria. Moria can be pretty confusing at first but once you get a hang of the places, leveling here will go pretty quickly and you should hit around level 60 in no time.
Level 60 – 65 Lothlorien / Mirkwood :
After getting out of Moria, head over to Lothlorien and Mirkwood. Leveling here is pretty easy as there are a lot of quests and everything is very streamlined.
Once you are level 60 or so, go to Mirkwood. Questing here is a breeze as all the quests are in quest hubs, so you won’t waste much time. Mirkwood will take you to around level 65.
Level 66 – 67 Enedwaith :

After leaving Mirkwood, head to Enedwaith and level to 67.
Level 68 – 72 Dunland :
It’s now time to head to Dunland for a few levels. Loads of solo quests here and you should be level 72 in no time.
Level 73 – 74 Gap of Rohan :
Move over to the Gap of Rohan at around level 72. There are quite a few quest hubs here and leveling is fairly easy.
Level 74 -75 Isengard :
Getting to level 75 in Isengard shouldn’t be a problem. If leveling gets slow, consider getting a group and you’ll be level 75 in no time.
Level 76 -85 Riders of Rohan :

Hey people. I had honestly totally forgotten that I had started this thing until about a week ago, when I almost came back to playing LotRO. Before, there were a couple reasons why I stopped, but the main one was school. I wanted to really focus on college, and LotRO certainly wasn't going to help me in that respect. I finished a semester of college, but decided I like teaching guitar more than exams and papers and professors. So now school's not in the way anymore.I had heard great things about the Siege of Mirkwood expansion, and I even had the opportunity to play it for a bit on a friend's computer. I took my friend's avatar out for a few more hours the next day just to see if it would be worth it, and by the end I was totally facing the opposite direction.
Basically, everything that had been added since I left seemed like icing on the cake. To most people, that metaphor means something positive. For me, most of the time it does, but this time I'm using it the other way. Icing is sweet while it lasts, but in the long run it's insubstantial, doesn't last a long time, and can easily make you sick if you have too much. The skirmish system was OK, I guess. It's basically an easy answer to the people whining about not being able to find a fellowship (which is a legitimate complaint). There's a bunch of new items to gander at in the AH, a lot of them to facilitate the crafting of Legendary weapons (I left before that beast reared its head). Those things (and others which I won't bore you with, you've already experienced them) left me with a very 'blah' feeling.
I felt myself sinking back into the mentality I had right before I quit. The game has strayed from its roots to try to entice as many people as possible. I can't blame Turbine for this (well, maybe I can), but they need to survive as a company and in this climate that's not easy. The original goal was to experience the world of Tolkien with other like-minded players. Now with glowing legendary weapons and all these flashy new systems, the game's lost its awesome simplicity that it had in the beginning. I get that stuff needs to be added and changed to keep things interesting, but there's no reason that those things have to taint what was already a solid foundation. I've said this before, but the game is becoming a WoW clone. We already have a Wow. Give us something else.
My last thought is on the future of the game as a whole. I'd be screaming this in the forums and in real life if I could, but I can't post it in the forums becuase I don't have an active subscription, and I'd look like an idiot in real life. My dad plays the stock market game, and he watches a guy on TV, Jim Cramer. The guy's a character, but also extremely brilliant. He predicted the US stock market crash that happened late in '08 before anyone else did, and he tried to warn people (to no avail) to try to prevent it, because he saw the signs that no one else did. I kind of feel like that now, but time will tell if I'm just being irrational.
This game is going to die. Maybe not soon, but eventually. I obviously don't have subscription numbers, so maybe the number of players is growing astronomically fast, but I don't think so. Ballparking it, I think that number will stop increasing within 12 months if not sooner, and it'll be a dead game within 2 years. Turbine is throwing ideas into the game in a desperate fashion so they can have more bullet points for new features when they release an expansion. I say this with all the love in the world. I adored this game. I really did. The simplicity of it, the beauty of it (in every aspect), but now there's a whole crap-ton of unneeded..crap getting in the way of that. I want to adore it again. All I have now are the books (which is enough for now).
Maybe I'm an outlier in terms of what people are looking for in this game, but I don't think so. Anyone who wants what Turbine is serving up now is going to (if they haven't already) go over to WoW, because Blizzard has been doing it longer, they're doing it better, and their numbers are still growing after almost 6 years.
In the most arrogant and tucked away corner of my brain that I keep shut up 99% of the time, I'm hoping someone will post this message of the forums for me, because (again, arrogantly), I think this needs to be said to as many people as possible as a sorely needed wake-up call. Something needs to give, and it needs to happen soon.
